Personal work > We AR MoMA (2010) Participant

We AR in MoMA (2010) was a pioneering augmented reality art intervention staged inside New York’s Museum of Modern Art. In partnership with artist Mark Skwarek, the project transformed MoMA into a virtual exhibition space by overlaying digital artworks onto the museum’s galleries and sculpture garden through smartphone-based AR—challenging traditional models of curatorship, access, and institutional control.

Executed without institutional permission, the intervention used geolocation technology to anchor virtual works to physical locations, demonstrating how augmented reality could bypass physical and cultural barriers. We AR in MoMA is widely regarded as an early milestone in guerrilla digital curation and the evolution of AR as a platform for public art.
